MCP Server for Safari

How do I connect an AI client to MCP Server for Safari?

Open MCP Server for Safari, turn on the extension under Safari Settings › Extensions, then switch on the MCP server. Pick your client under Connect and follow its setup steps. Quit and reopen the client after changing the port.

Which AI clients work with MCP Server for Safari?

Claude, Claude Code, Claude Desktop, Codex, Cursor, VS Code and ChatGPT. Any client that speaks the Model Context Protocol can connect.

What can a connected client do in Safari?

Open pages, read content, take screenshots, fill forms, run JavaScript and read cookies, using the Safari sessions you are already signed in to. Tools you have not allowed yet ask for your approval first.

Does anything leave my Mac?

The connection between the client and Safari stays on your Mac. Anything a client reads is handed to that client, which may send it to its AI provider, so only connect clients you trust. Dreams Lab never sees your browsing.

How do I turn MCP Server for Safari off?

Turn the MCP server off in the app and connected clients can no longer make requests. To remove it entirely, disable the extension in Safari Settings.

It says no client is connected, or it is waiting for the Safari extension

Open Safari so the extension can connect, and check that MCP Server for Safari is enabled under Safari Settings › Extensions. The status in the app updates on its own.

Web Dev Tools

Where do I find Web Dev Tools in Safari?

Enable Web Dev Tools under Safari Settings › Extensions, then use its toolbar button to open the launcher. Each tile turns a tool on or off.

What does each Web Dev Tools tool do?

Inspector follows your cursor with details of whatever you hover and pins them on click. Fonts, Spacing, Colors, Images and Accessibility paint a layer on the page. Tags lists the analytics and marketing tags on the page, and Perf runs a performance audit.

Does Web Dev Tools change the page?

No. Layers are drawn on top of the page and come off when you turn the tool off. Nothing on the site is modified.

The tools stay on when I move to another site

That is by design: tools stay on until you turn them off, so you can compare pages. The clear button in the launcher turns everything off at once.

Does Web Dev Tools send page data anywhere?

Inspection happens inside your browser. The performance audit opens Google PageSpeed Insights for the page's address in a new tab, which is Google's service and follows Google's privacy policy.

What does the Tags tool detect?

Analytics and marketing tags such as Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager and Meta Pixel, matched on your Mac against patterns from the open-source Omnibug project.
